Caught the bounce on NYMX today when it opened down at a crazy level because their Phase 3 study failed. Went long 3000 shares at .65, pretty much right at the open. I placed my stop right at .64 and decided just to ride this stock out till the end of the day, or until it gets to one dollar a share. Most stocks that collapse to way under a dollar a share after trading above $5 or more the perivious trading day rarely get over back over a dollar when they bounce, so decided to sell at .97 for a nice $960 profit today.
So I was only looking for FREE to close its' gap price from yesterday's close to catch a quick bounce, and it somewhat worked out decently. When long 2500 shares at 2.49 after a nice reversal hammer formed on the 5 minute chart. I was looking for a profit target of at least .50 cents (hoping that it was going to bounce back to the low 3's), but unfortunately it didn't get that far, and I sold it at 2.74 when my trailing stop got hit. Still a nice profit though of $625. I'm most likely done posting trades on this blog for 2013, so have a great new year, and see you in 2014 with more of my "Trade of the day".
My trade of the day is usually a daytrade, but today it was a swing trade from yesterday. SRPT had a somewhat high short interest after the huge 55% down gapper on Tuesday. When a hammer formed after Wednesday's close on the daily candlestick bar, I knew going long on Thursday's open will be the best opportunity for a nice bounce until at least Friday afternoon. Most shorts don't like to hold positions over the weekend especially after a nice gain from SRPT 55% down gapper. Decided to go long 500 shares of SRPT at 12.75 on Thursday right at the open, and sold it today right before the close today at 14.25 for a $750 profit. Have a great weekend everybody!
I knew this stock ARIA was going to bounce when it came outta the gates this morning. Went long 1000 shares at pre-market at 5.95 hoping for a nice quick bounce during the open, but it just started to collapse even more. Decided to double down on another 1000 shares at 5.02, giving me an average buy price of 5.485 holding 2000 shares. I was so confident that the 5 dollar a share price was a good support level. After that price quickly broke through the 5 dollar support, I decided to sell all my shares but ended up getting stuck into the trade when it first got halted. When it re-opened I finally was able to sell my shares for a $1,085 loss. I was trying to catch a falling knife and got really cut up. But the worst part of this trade was watching it bounce for the rest of the day.
RNA was a gift on Friday morning for those traders who played the gap down. Twitter, Stocktwits, and other trading message boards were going crazy about buying RNA on the open for a quick bounce. I decided to follow the crowd on this one and went long 500 shares of RNA at the open at got filled at 5.90. Also I went ahead and placed a stop at 4.98 because I saw a huge 100,000 shares bid on my level 2 screen. Didn't know if it was a real or fake bid, but gave myself a .02 room just incase it started to fall any farther than that (5.00). Anyways, sold RNA at 7.23 for a $665 profit when it seemed that the short term opening bounce was done. Not bad for 30 minutes of work :-) .
So I saw FLTX falling apart during the late afternoon. I was waiting patiently for some type of reversal signal, and low and behold it starting forming around 2:45p.m est. After that (pic below) dragonfly doji formed I knew buying on the next candle was going to give me a short-term bounce. Went long 300 shares of FLTX at 37.70, and sold it at 39.40 for a $510 profit in about 15 minutes. That type of trade setup with collapsing prices and then a dragonfly doji forming after a long decline are my favorite trading strategies/setups.
Sorry I haven't posted any types of day trades lately, but I don't usually daytrade in the spring and summer months. Anyways, I did make a couple of daytrades today with AVEO and PBI. The trade of the day though is going to be on PBI, it formed a beautiful candlestick hammer reversal formation. Went long twice on PBI, but finally nailed it on my second trade. Went long 1000 shares on the second round trip trade at 13.25 and sold it at 13.95 for a $700 profit, but lost $230 on my first trade (13.68 long: 13.45 stop-out). I'll be posting more trades when I'am able to daytrade in the morning. Now I'am only swing and position trading, but unfortunately I don't post those types of trade.
So went long 1000 shares of AH at 8.95, after I couldn't find an entry signal when trying to catch the bottom 15 minutes after it opened. I finally did decide to try and take the temporary break-out around 9 dollars a share. Right after I got in, I could have sold it 5 minutes later and just taken a $500 profit when it jumped quickly to 9.50 in less than 5 minutes, but got greedy instead and waited about 2 minutes before the market closed and sold it at 9.58 for a .63 point gain.
WOW! I can't believe I sold UVXY during the middle of the day, and left over $2000 on the table. Damn you Italy! Anyways, if you have been keeping up with my blog posts (on UVXY), you should know that I've been playing ever gap down on UVXY at the open for the past month, trying to catch that dead cat bounce. Went long again a 1000 shares today and got filled this morning at 9.25. After it hit a strong resistance level around 10.50 around noon, I sold it at 10.398 for a 1.148 point gain. I've noticed recently late in the day, UVXY tends to retrace back down after a nice bounce, so that's why I decided to take my profits and sell it around noon. As you can see though, it was the wrong decision, and I ended up leaving a pile of money on the table. Siiiiiiiiigh!
Took a huge gamble today on MMSI when I placed my stop at 9.97, after going long 1000 shares at 10.50. It had a very strong support level around the low 10's. It formed a nice candlestick hammer bar about 10 minutes into its' trading and bounced off that key support level, so I knew it had a great probability of retracing back up today. Sold it at 11.49 about 15 minutes before the close, for a .99 point gain. Have a great weekend!
Caught some of the fear selling and bought NOG after the candlestick hammer formed on the 5-minute chart. Went long 500 shares at 14.61 hoping for some short covering after the huge gap down. I wish I would've bought more shares, but all my capital were tied up with other stocks I was long this morning in. Anyways, ended up selling NOG about 30 minutes before the close at 15.37 for a .76 point gain. The day didn't really go all that well with me because I had 3 losers which canceled-out all my profits I had got with NOG.
So tried to catch some of the dead cat bounce action today on CLSN, but got stopped-out after I moved my stop to break-even. It felt like the market makers saw my stop, and decided they were going to take me out because the stock ended up rallying nicely after I got hit. Anyways, went long 3000 shares at 1.40 and got stopped-out at 1.40 for break-even.
Made only one round trip trade today with AKAM, and came out with a small profit. Went long 300 shares at 33.90, and placed stop at 33.49 hoping for at least a small bounce. It then started to consolidate for a bit, and I just tired of holding it, so decided to sell at 34.95 for a 1.05 point gain.
Caught an easy fear selling on GPOR this morning. Went long 300 shares at 38.25 after the candlestick hammer bar formed on the 5-minute bar chart. Placed a stop at 37.49, and was looking for a profit target of at least 40.95. But after GPOR broke through 40 dollars a share, I just decided to sell it, and take my profits now instead of hoping for it to hit around 40.95. So for that, I sold GPOR on the next 5 minute bar at 40.40 a share for a 2.15 point profit.
Caught a bit of a small bounce on KERX today when I went long this morning 1000 shares at 6.71, and placed stop at 6.49. My risk to reward ratio was horrible on this trade, but I had a strong feeling it wasn't going to turn down today because of the overall market rally. Finally, sold it about 10 minutes before the market closed at 7.20 for a .49 point gain.
So finally got tired of holding this bagg (CLSN), and sold it at 1.14 when it started looking like new lows was in the works. As you can see on the picture below, went long 2000 shares on Friday at 1.35 and sold it this morning at 1.14, a -.21 point loss. There is still a heavy short interest percentage in CLSN, so I might get back in when the overall selling subside a bit.
I'm pretty much hell bent on trying to catch this bounce on CLSN. I can't believe this stock is down over 80%, and is struggling to get a decent bounce, and I don't care about Phase 3 study results. Anyways, went long just 1000 shares yesterday at 1.53, but got stopped-out this morning at 1.39 for a -.14 point loss. After a hammer formed after I got stop-out, I decided to go long again at 1.35 but this time buying 2000 shares instead of 1000. I'm doubling down on this crap! The market closed, and for the first time in a long time, I'm holding a stock over the weekend. Good-luck to me :-) !!!
